Ode to a GooBear

Yah, I know. Long time, no post. Was a busy summer for us, and I'll update ya'll on that as I get back into the swing of things.

This week was a rough week. We had to put Gucci (aka GooBear) to sleep. Yah, he was 17 and he'd lived a long full life but it doesn't make it any easier. Maybe the fact that he was with me for as long as he was, makes it even harder.

Last Thursday though, I was in the computer room and turned around to see him dragging himself across the floor to get to his spot at my feet, under my computer desk. I thought that maybe he had hurt or broken his leg. I called the emergency vet and within a few minutes we had him in his carrier and out the door. I guess maybe deep down I knew it was worse than that and when Phil called me from the vet it wasn't to tell me that he was going to be in a cast but instead, that Gucci had a blood clot that had paralyzed his lower body. The vet told him that Gucci was in pain, and that although there were things they could do, that it would just happen again and worse the next time.

I couldn't do that to him, and gave Phil the okay to put him down. It wasn't a hard decision to make but it sure was a shitty one. After 17 years with him though, I had to do what was best for him.

It's been a week now and I still look for him everywhere. George, my other senior citizen cat that is 16, has been wandering around and is clearly depressed and "clingy". Sebastian was pretty devastated, it was his first experience with loss that involved something that he had seen every day of his life. He understood though, and demanded a funeral when we get Gucci's ashes back, although I'm having a hard time convincing him that we can't have a cat funeral at an actual funeral home.

Anyway, I'm back to blogging. Figured it was only right to dedicate my first blog of fall to my GooBear. :(
